POLICE detectives are appealing for information following a shocking robbery of an angler in Warrington.

Angler’s Mail has had confirmation from Police that the incident took place late evening on 14th May at Grey-Mist Mere in Woolston.

At around 10.40pm the victim − a 37-year-old man, who has asked not to be named − was fishing at the location when he was approached by two men. One of the men threatened him with what appeared to be a gun.

The men stole his fishing equipment and mobile phone before fleeing the scene − the pair made off towards the car park.

The victim was not injured during the robbery but was left extremely shaken by his ordeal.

The first offender is described as white, around 5′ 6″ to 5′ 7″ tall, of slim build, believed to be in his late teens to early 20s and was wearing a dark hooded top.

It has not been established whether the gun was real or imitation. The weapon was not discharged and no injuries were reported.

In a statement released to Angler’s Mail, DC Stephen Deehan said: ‘Fortunately the victim was not injured as a result of the incident but he was left extremely shaken by the ordeal.

‘Incidents such as this are rare and, although no firearm was discharged and no injuries were reported, we take any incidents of this nature extremely seriously and will do all we can to trace whoever is responsible.

‘We are currently out a number of enquiries and are appealing for anyone who has any information in relation to the robbery to come forward.

‘We would also appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and has witnessed what happened or may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact us. Even the smallest amount of information can be vital when piecing together a case.

‘We are also urging anyone who has any information regarding the identity of the offenders to get in touch.’

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 986 of 14/05/13 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, via 0800 555 111.
