ALI HAMIDI, co-host of ITV4 show The Big Fish Off, showed comic timing in announcing there WILL be a second series of the celebrity challenge angling programmes.
Posting on his Facebook page on April 1, Ali said: “Terrible news, just had an email from ITV, series 2 of The Big Fish Off won’t be happening!”
Of course, anyone who watched The Big Fish Off the during February and March, will know that Ali and fellow presenter Dean Macey enjoyed loads of banter. So Ali’s next line, ending speculation about the show’s future, may not be a surprise…
“Happy April Fools! You’re stuck with Dean Macey & I for the foreseeable future! :-)) Yeeehaaa!”
Ali continued: “We’ve known for sometime, but couldn’t comment until official sign off had happened by the heads of ITV. Who’s excited for series 2? Filming starts in May, and we hope to hit ITV again in Feb 2016 for another 5 show bonanza! Trust us, it’ll be worth the wait.”
The news of a second series was later confirmed by The Big Fish Off’s own channels: “*IT’S OFFICIAL: THE BIG FISH OFF SERIES 2* The boys will be back Feb 2016. Let battle commence….again!”
Meanwhile, ITV’s main channel are to screen repeats of series 1 during May this year – proving the viewing success of the first series when shown on ITV4.
Guests for the second series have yet to be confirmed, but there has been much speculation, and Ali himself has kept the interest bubbling away on social media in recent weeks.
Former England goalkeeper David Seaman (below), ex-Eastenders star Scott Maslen and pop star Dappy – all genuine keen and experienced anglers – were amongst the guests in the first series.
Angler’s Mail magazine readers have volunteered some amusing suggestions for potential guests in the future series of The Big Fish Off.
And former football star Jimmy Bullard recently told Angler’s Mail magazine he IS keen to appear – he was in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here earlier this year, to great acclaim and is a top class match angler.
