The thaw has kicked in properly this week as temperatures have risen and stayed stable – so venues near you should become fishable.

And, after days or weeks away from the water, anglers have seen some unusual sights.

Angler’s Mail fan Adrian Smith, from Hereford, recorded surely the most startling video of any thawing venue here in the UK.

Venturing out on December 29, he captured a torrent of ice floes flooding down the  lower River Wye on King George’s playing fields, noted for its chub and barbel.
