The Sonik VaderX Spinning Rods come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: four spinning rods.

Specifications: 7 ft (10-30 g-rated) and 8, 9 and 10 ft (20-60 g-rated) models. All include fast, powerful actions; ergonomic cork handles with rubberised cork reinforcement; quality DPS reel seats, complete with keeper ring; K-style guides, for tangle-free, smooth casting; and anti-frap, low profile tip guides.

My verdict: you’re getting quite a lot for your money here, especially when you consider that the price tags are only around £40. They should attract a lot of interest.

I like the choice of lengths, as there are times when you need a little bit more reach to work a lure just over marginal growth.

The cork handles are a nice touch, too, and are welcome in the colder months, as they will feel warmer to the touch than other types of material.

It also looks as if the guides complement the action of the lightweight, carbon blanks perfectly.

They look useful for a bit of sink-and-draw or wobbling work, too.

Prices: £34.99-£42.99.
