The Mistral Atlantic Crab Carp Baits come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: spicy, fishmeal boilie range with matching pop-ups, wafters and glugs.

Ingredients: masala and tandoori spices, krill extract, fish extract and fishmeals.

My verdict: a spicy, fishy carp bait range. Having had a good look at the ingredients, I reckon they’re a proven combination, and it’ll be interesting to see how well they work.

The boilies are available in shelf-life and frozen formats, and the matching pop-ups and wafters give you the choice of fishing on the bottom or just above it.

A matching glug is always useful, I find, as it puts an extra hit of attraction in the water column. They might have been designed primarily for carp, but I can see barbel and chub anglers checking them out, too.

Prices: 15 mm boilies £8.99 a kilo; 37.99-£39.99 for 5 kg; pots of 12 and 15 mm pop-ups and 15 mm Wafters £3.99; Glug £8.99.
