The Middy MW Signature Pole Floats come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Specifications: patterns include Diamond Carp (4×12, 4×14, 4×16), Rugby (4×12, 4×14, 4×16), Diamond Mugger (4×10, 4×12), Mudline (4×10, 4×12), F1 Carbon (4×10, 4×12, 4×14) and F1 Flexi-Wire (4×10, 4×12, 4×14) pole floats.
Designed with key input from match aces Rob Wootton, Chris Cameron and Lee Thornton; MW stands for Middy-Wrap – a special hand-whipping on the side eye to ensure that they’re extra secure; all the floats have hollow bristles and high buoyancy Rohacell bodies; the stems are either nitinol anti-kink wire or glass.
My verdict: a lot of thought has gone into this pole float range to ensure that they not only perform to the highest level, they will take some of the ‘hammer’ associated with tempting match carp and F1s.
The two F1 designs, with their slim bodies and slim, hollow tips, for delicate presentations, come with a carbon stem or a wire stem to cover on-the-drop presentations or where you want to get a bait down to the fish fast.
Middy have opted to use different gauges of wire on the side eyes of the MW Signature range, to ensure that the floats are balanced correctly, coupled with hand whipping for side-eye security.
The all-round bagging model for midwater work with pellet are the Diamond Carp designs. Opt for the Diamond Muggers for shallow mugging work when you can see fish cruising.
The Rugby floats will lend themselves to paste, as well as some all-round presentations, while the Mudline patterns are for pushing up against far bank stalks, for tempting fish close to cover.
Price: £2.49 each.
