The Middy M-Tech Carp Commercial Line comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
FOR fishing up in the water you might want to buy a floating main line, and for feeder or bomb work you’re likely to opt for a fast sinker. The team at Middy have launched one line that they claim allows you to get the best of both worlds.
The knowledge that a copolymer material is denser than standard mono and sinks faster, coupled with the fact that a polished line tends to want to float, is the theory behind this design.
Also, a shiny finish gives the line a harder, tougher outer, which can be improved further by using a highly polished die, so you can improve abrasion resistance and knot strength. Armed with this information they believe they have cracked the floating or sinking line conundrum.
By using all the best elements and applying what Middy are calling their Hard Shell technology with M-Tech line, they report that if you leave it on the surface, it’ll float, give it a pull, however, and it’ll definitely sink.
A reel line for commercial fishery work, designed to resist abrasion and offer high knot strength, it comes in a muddy brown colour. The polished finish also helps with casting.
It comes on 300 m spools, allowing several reel spools to be loaded, and is in 4.4 lb (0.16 mm) up to 12 lb (0.28 mm) breaking strains.
Price: £7.50 for 300 m.
