The Maver Reality Front Drag Reels come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: value-for-money fixed-spool reels.

Specifications: 3000 and 4000 sizes; multi-disc front drag; 4+1 ball bearings;

5:1 gear ratio; anti-twist line roller; lightweight; instant anti-reverse; comes

loaded with 0.24 mm line (3000) and 0.26 mm line (4000).

My verdict: two tidy reels for beginners or anglers on a tight budget.

The 3000 model is the better option for float fishing, while the 4000 is the better choice for feeder fishing, though you could use either of them for both disciplines.

Ideal for commercial fisheries, natural lakes or rivers, they’ll cope easily with flicking out a waggler, feeder, bomb or Method feeder.

I recommend that you also buy a spare spool, as they only cost an extra £7.99.

They are certainly worth a closer look.

Prices: £32.99-£34.99.
