The Gunki Iron-T Chooten Lure Rods come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Description: top-end range of lure rods.
Specifications: 29 rods, from a 183 cm (3.5-7 g-rated) finesse model to a 240 cm (42-120 g-rated) heavy jig design; Japanese Toray blanks; Fuji reel seats with carbon inserts; specially shaped reel handles; Fuji K rings and micro guides; fast and ultra-fast actions; reinforced braided-carbon butt sections.
My verdict: it looks as if Gunki have put a lot of thought into this huge lure rod range, which I will cover in a little more detail at a later date.
There’s high quality throughout, including responsive blanks, handle grips to match different styles of lure fishing, and extra carbon inserts in the reel seat, helping you to ‘feel’ the lure being worked.
You’ll also find fast or ultra-fast actions, for better casting and what they call ‘reactivity’, helping you to detect the slightest knock.
The insulating properties and the feel of the cork handles will be well received, too. There are one-and two-piece designs in the range.
