The 10 ft 6 in. Maver Signature Pro Bomb/Feeder Rod comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: a bomb and feeder rod.

Specifications: slim carbon, non-locking blank; ergonomic EVA twist grips; SiC guides; graphite screw fitting, to secure reels; folding keeper ring; 30 g maximum casting weight; 2-6 lb line rating; supplied with Light and Medium quivertips.

My verdict: I like the look of this rod, which has quality fittings and an action to match. It will be especially useful over the coming months, as it looks ideal for taming hard-won commercial fishery carp and silver fish.

Whether you’re looking to flick out a pellet and hybrid feeder to near or far bank features, or a bomb to search open water, this rod is built for the task.

I know that Maver wanted to get the non-locking, quick-response blank spot-on, and they’ve complemented it nicely with SiC and Fuji fittings.

Attention to detail on the EVA twist grips was also a priority, the result being a slightly oversized handle that fills the palm of your hand, and the upper reel seat is specially shaped to take your thumb and forefinger.

These small touches may seem insignificant to some, but they all add up, to help make a rod a joy to handle, with an action that’ll give you the confidence to hook and land hard-fighting fish successfully.

Price: £179.99.
