Tested by Duncan Charman

A dual system sling that doubles up as a carp sack as well as a weigh sling. Measuring in at 36 x 28 in. it’s easily capable of weighing carp up to 40 lb but lacks the stiffening rods that create support when weighing big fish. The handle also lacks any centralising scale rings. A black mesh design, it folds away into a neat pocket style case. Comes complete with heavy-duty cord, suitable for retention of carp of any size and incorporates a ‘Zip and Clip’ system.
SCORE: 23/30

Not the deepest sling tested at just 20 in. deep but certainly long enough at 43 in. The reinforced poles and comfortable foam carrying handles allow for safe transportation and the non-slip side zips allow for easy fish placement and release. The interior is double stitched and smooth for total fish protection. The mesh base creates an easy water drainage system. There are no scale centralising rings however. Olive green, it is supplied in a pull string carrying case.
SCORE: 24/30

Measuring in at 44 x 22 in. the reinforced stiffening rods provide sling stability and the handles are double-stitched for strength. This sling has been designed not to ‘collapse in’ on fish and the smooth, non abrasive rubberised inner lining gives total protection to your capture and full support when weighing. The end zips allow for easy placement and removal of fish but are very easy to undo! Full-length drainage holes allow for water release and accurate weight reading. It has an olive green finish and is supplied in a pull cord closure carry bag.
SCORE: 26/30

Manufactured from fish-friendly polyester this sling incorporates top quality zips that won’t pull open from any weight of fish, resulting in safe transportation back to the water. There’s no problem with water drainage from this mesh style sling. It’s designed to dry quickly. The reinforced arms and handles lack centralised scale positioning rings. Olive green in colour, it’s supplied within a nylon draw string case. By far the largest sling tested at 48 x 30 in. and capable of weighing carp in excess of 40 lb.
SCORE: 27/30

A real contender for top position, at 45 x 26 in. it’s designed to weigh any size and length of carp that swims. It incorporates foldable reinforced aluminium bars to properly support your capture and the weighing cord features aluminium rings to centralise your scales for accurate weighing. The internal seamless design ensures no hard or rough edges for total fish protection and the zipped sides and carry handles allow safe transportation. My only concern is the small and lack of water drainage holes. Supplied in drawstring case.
SCORE: 28/30

Easily big enough at 46 x 22 in. to weigh carp up to and beyond 40 lb. It’s finished in an olive green, quick dry nylon. The rubberised mesh base allows easy water release and the weigh cords incorporate central aluminium rings for precise weight reading. Foldable aluminium poles add rigidity to the slings weigh bar. Zipped sides allow for easy placement and fish release and wont pull open on weighing or carrying. Packs away into a neat draw string nylon case.
