POTENTIAL British carp record venue Wingham Fisheries continues its amazing progress with a new lake record 57 lb 10 oz mirror from the Main Lake.

Not only did Ian Brown break the record on the 40 acre Main Lake but he also recorded the heaviest ever brace from the tricky Wingham complex.

The neighbouring 15 acre Carp Lake has already produced seven different 50 lb-plus carp to 60 lb 8 oz.

Research scientist Ian, from nearby Ashford, Kent, moved swims to where he’d spotted fish activity 24 hours earlier.

And just two minutes after casting out he had a take that turned out to be the PB carp.

That alone would have made a red letter day, but just as he was about to pack away his second rod he was in again.

The result was a 44 lb 2 oz mirror (below), making a brace of 101 lb 12 oz.

Ian Brown admires the smaller of his two Wingham heavyweights.

The 59-year-old said: “It was amazing to catch a rarely caught fish from a very special environment.

“I had a marsh harrier above me and nightingales singing in the background.”

Wingham creator Steve Burke added: “The carp in the Main Lake average several years younger than in the Carp Lake and most of us feel that the water will shortly eclipse those fish.”
