BRETT LONGTHORNE took an amazing six specimens in a memorable weekend session on the River Trent in Nottinghamshire.

Manchester-based Brett also smashed his PB barbel twice and chub once as he kept bites coming throughout the tidal river trip.

Brett explained: “Friday was steady with four barbel to 12 lb and Saturday morning saw four more to 11 lb 10 oz.

“It went quiet then so I got the spodder out and put ten pay loads down consisting of 10 mm 3 Ft Twitch Redemption boilies plus 4mm pellets and rapeseed.

“At 1.30am the rod burst into action! I was surprised by a big chub weighing 6 lb oz.

“I put the rod back on the same spot and 4am it was away again, this time a PB barbel of 15 lb 4 oz.

“The next day was really quiet so, at 7pm, the spodder came out again, same process repeated and the rod back on same spot.

“At 2.30am I netted my PB chub at 7 lb 7 oz – over the moon was an understatement and it was two PBs.

“The rod was back out and  at 4.45 am  it was away again and another PB barbel at a huge 15 lb 12 oz.

“This meant three PBs in 24 hours which blew my mind and I ended with 12 barbel including 4 doubles and those two chub,” added Brett.

He used size 8 hook and a 30 lb Kryston’s Jackal trace with a 4 oz lead.

The tremendous tidal river catches earned Brett a weekly win in the Richworth Fish of the Week in Angler’s Mail magazine.
