ANGLER’S MAIL columnist Steve Collett showed why he is regarded by many as the No.1 true all-round angler by winning the British Lure Angling Championships for the second year on the trot.
And Steve more than doubled the length of his nearest rival in the final at Somerset’s Chew Valley in the event that is decided on metres rather than pounds.
And Steve put together a colossal 22 m 52 cm of pike and perch to claim the £1,000 prize – just like he did last year in the nation’s main lure angling event.
Steve’s latest winning haul is longer than the biggest ever sperm whale – the World’s biggest predator. And it’s 4 m longer than a double-jointed London ‘bendy bus’!
Steve, who is also a top match, carp, sea and game angler, boated a run of pike to 98 cm – which can go well over 20 lb plus perch to 50 cm….specimens that can go over 5 lb when weighed.
