TERRY ETTRIDGE has smashed the River Lea barbel record with a 16 lb beauty – thanks to the good old method of rolling meat.

In this age of hi-tech pellets, pastes and boilies, and normally a combination of all three, Terry proved how good the simple tactic is with the super specimen from Fishers Green.

Back in 1999, Rolling meat expert Ray Walton broke the British record with a 17 lb 4 oz barbel and then upped his PB to 18 lb 13 oz 8 dr in 2002 from the Great Ouse both using the method.

by the Barbel Society was 15 lb 15 oz which fell in March 2008 by Max Towner.
