CHEW VALLEY LAKE has been tipped to break the British pike record, but some anglers think it could do the same for perch

Top pike and trout guide John Horsey helped one of his clients land this personal best 4 lb 10 oz fish (above) from the West Country water on a Fox Rage Rainbow Trout Replicant lure.

The happy captor was Mike Anderton, from Keswick, in Cumbria, fishing with his son Will during this year’s pike trials.

Despite freezing weather and near gale force north-easterly gusts, Mike tempted the perch, the biggest that John has seen from Chew in 22 years of guiding, in open water about 10 ft deep near Moreton Bank.
