OUR latest online poll has proved carp aren’t the dominant species many people say as the beautiful perch topped the list of species YOU would like to catch at a British record.

Well over 600 of you voted at www.anglersmail.com and the striped predator came out on top – but by the smallest of margins.

Perch pipped carp by a single vote as both finished on 17 per cent but stripys had 107 votes to carp 106.

Tench finished third  with 14 per cent of votes, followed by roach on 12 per cent, pike on 7 per cent and barbel a surprising sixth on 6 per cent.
