FRIENDS Mike Holcombe (above)and Dennis Bird (below) returned to the same Hampshire chalkstream they had a good hit of grayling in January and had an even better catch with both this time bagging three-pounders!
Godalming, Surrey-based Mike this time had the best fish with this PB 3 lb 4 oz stunner while 66-year-old security officer Dennis, from Pagham in West Sussex had one of 3 lb 2 oz.
Retired Mike, who is involved in the Angling Trust crucian carp project, said: “We were back on the same stretch of river, and on a glorious sunny day, Dennis and I caught a total of 23 grayling, 11 of which weighed over 2 lb. Incredibly, we both had personal bests.
“I used a 5BB wire-stemmed Avon float, trotting the stream with maggots on a size 14 hook to 3 lb line. Loose fed maggots kept the fish coming throughout the day,’ he added.
