SPESSY ace Kevin Sanders smashed his roach PB with this 3 lb 3 oz giant.

The Norfolk lake giant beat Kevin’s old 2 lb 6 oz best, from the same venue, with ease.

The 42-year-old Cambridge angler said: “After a day of catching small perch and some lovely roach of over 1 lb on a Norfolk lake, this beauty took the bait as I was packing up.

“I could tell that it was a good fish, but only saw how good when I netted it and turned on my head-torch.

“I was using a maggot feeder fished helicopter style, and I was filling the feeder with Dynamite XL Liquid Strawberry, for high attraction.

“The hook link was 3 in. of Drennan 5.6 lb Supplex Fluorocarbon, and I used a big VMC size 10 wide gape feeder hook, to try to single out the bigger fish. It seemed to work.

“I used a buoyant maggot on the shank and two ‘lives’ on the hook. This was also dipped in the XL Liquid Strawberry, for even more attraction.”

Norfolk lake has roach pedigree

Kevin revealed: “The lake has a history of very big roach, but the biggest fish is not around any more.

“I knew the lake still had a handful of specimens of over  3 lb, so decided to have a go, as nothing lasts forever.

“On my second trip, I had a 2 lb 6 oz beauty, but it was fourth trip lucky when I caught the 3 lb 3 oz fish.

“I’m sure that the existing fish will get bigger, as the lake is a carp syndicate and has lots of bait going in,” concluded the manufacturing technician.
