TEENAGER Jake Ball has caught one of the most impressive pike of the season with this 32 lb 8 oz canal stunner.

Fishing on the New Junction Canal near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, the 14-year-old obliterated his old PB of 17 lb.

Jake’s giant New Junction Canal predator came during a trip with his dad, Steve, and family friend, Tom Watts.

Tom, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, explained top Angler’s Mail how it happened.

Tom said: “Jake loves his lure fishing but on this occasion he cast a popped-up mackerel tail on the far shelf on simple float tactics where he’d seen pike striking at silver fish.

“Myself and his dad realised it was a special fish as soon as it surfaced but it wasn’t until it was in the net that the girth of it could really be appreciated.

“It goes to show how healthy the silver fish stocks are in the ‘Junky’ (New Junction Canal).

“The canal has never done a 30 to my knowledge before but Steve has caught a 29 lb 2 oz specimen in the past.”
