WEIGHING in at 1 lb 8 dr this dace might not be the usual heavyweights you see adorning the pages of Angler’s Mail but is certainly a true giant of the species. It’s less than 5 oz below the British record.
Caught by Portsmouth, Hampshire-based roofer, Simon Daley, the big ‘un fell from a shallow chalkstream in the same county.
He used a 15 ft Drennan Match Pro Ultralight rod to carefully control a stick float to offer a single maggot on a size 20 Kamasan B611 hook, with 3.2 lb main line and 2.5 lb hook link.
