TOP specialist angler Stewart Allum has banked one of the shock fish of the season after landing an 8 lb chub in a stunning brace.
A last minute change of venue and tactics saw him visit a stretch of the River Thames he’d never tackled before.
It led to an amazing few hours sport after he tempted chub of 6 lb 10 oz followed by the giant at 8 lb 8 dr.
East Grinstead, West Sussex-based Stewart said: “I’ve been fishing the Thames for chub since the 1990s and this was the first time I’d given this area a try,” he added.
After priming the swim with a few balls of cheesepaste (one of the best baits for winter chub), Stewart started to explore the peg. A long cast saw a good pull on the quivertip and he connected with the smaller of the brace.
To build the fish’s confidence, Stewart fed again and rested the swim before returning at dusk to connect with the eight-pounder.
