TREVOR POLE nabbed an amazing chub brace from his local Great Ouse with this 7 lb 14 oz beauty plus a 6 lb 14 oz chevin.

Trevor, a 62-year-old gardener, had already nabbed two late-season fish to 5 lb 10 oz the previous evening before returning.

Birstall, Leicestershire-based Trevor said: “The first trip was in vile weather of wind and rain then I adjourned to my van for some sleep.

“Next morning I fully expected the river to be up and coloured, but it wasn’t and the river was still nice and green.

“I quickly started fishing the same two swims of the previous evening, going in with large chunks of bread flake on a size 6 hook to 8 lb line with a light swan shot link leger.”

Trevor’s river catch starred in Angler’s Mail magazine’s Fish of the Week pages, just before the UK entered its lockdown period due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rivers are closed to coarse fishing in England and Wales until June 16th, regardless of when all other venues open.
