TOP specimen hunter Tony King caught an equal personal best 3 lb 3 oz roach – on only his second trip after them at a new water

Tony boated the magnificent summer fish from a secret day ticket water that he feels could produce even bigger fish.

Eastbourne, East Sussex-based Tony added other roach of 2 lb 1 oz and 1 lb 15 oz in a good catch with two other specimen aces.

The 65-year-old told Angler’s Mail: “I had a cracking day out afloat with my good friends Chris Turnbull and Malcolm Turnbull.

“Chris and I both think it is a true roach and I asked the opinion of big roach specialist Mark Wintle who said it is possibly a roach (job to tell in photos) and I asked my mate Keith Berry the British roach record holder and he thinks it looks OK. Trouble with roach there’s always going to be doubts.

“I was using float fished flake/maggot cocktail with a 3AA Drennan Chrystal waggler, 4 lb Drennan Supplex line, size 8 Drennan Super Specialist hook and fed mashed bread little and often, probably using a couple of loaves up.”

The catch won a Korum Specimen Cup weekly price for Matthew from Angler’s Mail magazine – the No.1 every week for top tips, big news, best products, and venues that are in form
