MATCH angler Chris Murphy got the shock of his life when he came second in a small contest thanks to a whopping 32 lb 4 oz pike!

Chris was legered a grain of hair-rigged corn on a tiny size 18 hook to a 0.14 mm Silstar Match Team trace and 4 lb Maxima main line when the predator took his bait at Woodstock Pond in Newport, South Wales.

Carpenter Chris, 56, from Bargoed, explained: ‘I had a normal bite and hooked into a big fish and just presumed it was a carp. After a while I saw this pike at a distance and thought it must have grabbed the fish I was playing but as I got it closer I realised I hooked it just in the scissors.’
