A CONCERNED Mail reader this week uncovered further evidence of the widespread use of gillnets and banned fishing methods after catching three illegal fisherman red-handed.

Peterborough DAA member and bailiff Mark Smith encountered the group on the Castor Backwater stretch of the River Nene, near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

They were using apples for bait!

Mark contacted the Environment Agency immediately and handed over the illegal equipment for inspection.
