SPECIMEN ace John Mott celebrated turning 45 by enjoying a dream river session.
In what must be the best fishing birthday gift ever, John notched up a staggering 20 double-figure barbel.
Tackling his favourite River Trent in Nottinghamshire, John added three smaller barbel in his bumper haul.
He included a brace at 16 lb 4 oz and 16 lb 1 oz plus others of 14 lb 14 oz, 14 lb 10 oz and 13 lb 2 oz.
And that’s not all. John added bonus carp of 17 lb 14 oz and 13 lb 4 oz.
What a fishing birthday gift it was!
Ruskington, Lincolnshire-based John told Angler’s Mail: “It was a dream session for my birthday.
“I fished the tidal for a social for two days and nights.
“Having had some huge barbel, the very last fish of the session resulted in an absolutely stunning mirror carp at 17 lb 14 oz.
John revealed: “It is not my biggest hit of big barbel but it is the first time I’ve had a brace of 16-pounders.
“My personal best is a 18 lb 8 oz barbel that I’ve never made public due to the ‘followers’.
“And my biggest barbel made public was at the end of last season at 16 lb 10 oz,” added the maintenance engineer team leader.
John big birthday haul fell to legered OP-31 18 mm boilies by Noble Baits at Future Fishing Newark.
He fed half a kilo of mostly half baits via a baitdropper at the start, then topped up with 30 baits every bite.
The boilies were presented on size 4 hooks to a 20 lb braided trace with 25 lb braided main line.
John has already notched one PB this season with a huge 7 lb 4 oz eel in May.
