THE time of cheap club tickets for women and even “joint husband and wife” memberships looks like ending thanks to new European rules on equality.

Joint memberships could be allowed to continue – as long as no gender barriers are put in place and same sex relationships are offered the same price discount.

Mighty Birmingham AA are the first big club to drop their cheaper ladies tickets as they fear being prosecuted.

Instead they have tried to ease the blow by making a new non-fishing  membership of just £10 so wives and girlfriends who want to enjoy the fresh air can be covered by their insurance.
