AN influential industry body has called for cormorants to be left alone, revealing that numbers of the fish-munching birds are now falling.

The Institute of Fisheries Management report, presented at the annual Reg Cooke Memorial Lecture in London in conjunction with the RSPB, detailed how breeding numbers fell by 11 per cent between 2010 and 2011, possibly as a result of licensed extermination.
