THE venue which made angling history with the stunning fish you see here can no longer be fished by the general public.
British record perch water Stream Valley Lakes has closed for day ticket fishing.
It created history back in 2011 when specimen fish ace Neill Stephen smashed the perch record with a 6 lb 3 oz giant.
Stream Valley, an intimate two-pool fishery near Crowborough, in East Sussex, then had to share the British record perch title.
Ken Brown caught a perch of the same 6 lb 3 oz weight from the 119-acre Wilstone Reservoir, in Hertfordshire.
Fans of Stream Valley have expressed their sadness at the loss of the venue’s open access.
Local tackle dealer Jed Kent, of Crowborough Tackle, told Angler’s Mail: “We heard the news they’d shut for day ticket fishing a few months ago.
“We understand that they have a small carp syndicate on there now, but there’s no more day tickets.
“It was always a good perch water, and could always throw up a few good fish,” he added.
British record perch ‘not alive’
Eastbourne-based specimen ace Tony King rated Stream Valley as one of the best perch waters that he’d fished.
Tony said: “I used to fish it quite a bit. I’ve had a lot of perch to 4 lb from there.
“Me and Gary Newman did an Angler’s Mail feature there and both of us had perch of over 3 lb, which isn’t a bad result for the cameras.
“Neill’s fish was fantastic, but I doubt that would be alive now,” added Tony.
Stream Valley haven’t replied to Angler’s Mail’s messages, but have a Facebook statement saying that they are now closed to visiting anglers.
