Eddy Widdup was float fishing a headless herring in a slack out of the main flow of the river towards the bottom end of the fishery when he had what looked like a classic pike run.
‘The float wandered off and dipped under. I wound down and hit it and all hell broke loose. It was an epic fight. It took 60 yards of line off me on its first run and I wasn’t fishing light,’ recalled 34-year-old advertising executive Eddy.
