THE biggest tench of the season has been landed at a whopping 14 lb 11 oz – in an amazing fortnight for record-shaking tincas, Angler's Mail can reveal.

Scaffolder Chris Bromley took the latest giant from Abbotts Lake near Stanstead Abbotts in Herfordshire on the Lee Valley Regional Park complex. It sits at equal-third on the Tenchfishers big fish list.

The catch comes just a week after we revealed the biggest tench for five years when Chris Jacob caught a 14 lb 8 oz giant from Tippings Lane syndicate in Berkshire. Boilie tactics scored for the latest catch too.

The 32-year-old from Harlow explained: “I turned up to do a cheeky overnighter at 4pm on Friday. The lake was busy so decided to go over the corner of No.1 swim out of the way.

“I put the rods out at 80-yard range at the back of a bar I know of and have had good fish of before. The rods were baited with Mainline Hybrid snowman-style with white and pink toppers on two of them.

“My friend Grinner was down for the evening with me to chill so we decided to have a order a curry up, as you do. The curry house rang my phone to say it was here so Grinner went of to pick it up and in true style the middle rod went off – I thought ‘sweet, I’m in already!’ concluded Chris.
