THE biggest and probably most freakish pike catch this year – and for a very long time – was Dennis Jones’ capture of a 38 lb 7 oz beast .

The monster, from a day ticket water revealed in this week’s Angler’s Mail, didn’t fall to a deadbait, lure or livebait but a BOILIE intended for carp. It was also Dennis’ FIRST-EVER pike.

The 58-year-old self-employed gardener, from Rogiet in Monmouthshire, smashed the club pike record.

Fishing during the day, Dennis had caught five carp over 20 lb in a week’s fishing and had banked one of 11 lb before he hooked this fish at around 1pm and at first thought it was another bigger carp.
