WITH over 200 attendees this year’s Barbel Society Show has been hailed a huge success.

There were plenty of people through the doors in Leicestershire despite the fact that the show took place over the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

This didn’t deter punters as though the weather was damp the atmosphere at the show was electric.

Amongst the many speakers on the day, which included match ace Dave Harrell, angling’s Mr TV John Wilson MBE and the show stealing Avon Roach Project.

As well as the informative and entertaining presentations there was a bustling trade area featuring manufacturers and retailers.

There was also a surprise after Dave Mason, who had been taken unwell, was given £400 that had been collected for him.

Of the event Barbel Society chairman Steve Pope said: ‘Superb show this year, pleased to see such fantastic support over the Jubilee weekend.

‘John Wilson showed why he is the number one and when Dave Mason appeared on stage there was hardly a dry eye in the house.

‘The atmosphere was marvellous and everyone really enjoyed themselves, roll on next year!’

One of the manufacturers was Angler’s Mail Specimen Cup sponsors Pallatrax.

Their gaffer Simon Pomeroy said: ‘This year’s show was a true success, well organised and with a good attendance, which further goes to show how many anglers enjoy barbel fishing.

‘Our stand was busy from the off with great interest being shown in Pallatrax’s new product ranges including, Hidra, Multi Purpose Powders and The Squabs. Needless to say we will be going again next year and taking a bigger stand.’
