THIS 6 lb 2 oz crucian carp would smash the British record – but the bar of gold was actually caught from Sweden by local Stefan Burnert.
Top specimen hunter Stefan, from Sollentuna, had tried hard for three seasons at a ten-acre lake that contains just a handful of large fish. He went onto catch the same fish a year later at 6 lb 5 oz.
But he then had an even bigger one at 6 lb 6 oz – enough to make most English specimen hunters drool! The British record is 4 lb 9 oz.
Stefan Burner has written a guest chapter in this new book Crock of Gold – Seeking The Crucian Carp. We speak to its expert author, Dorset veteran Peter Rolfe, who has a full interview in this week’s Angler’s Mail magazine.
