IN ANOTHER stunning week for pike, a monster 37 lb 4 oz specimen from Norfolk was the present for one lucky angler who booked a day with top fishing guide John Bailey.
And for Ian Jackson he really had a fish of a lifetime as the super snapper wasn’t from a trout water – like the vast, headline-dominating Chew Valley – but from a small carp syndicate lake.
Cover star John, a writer, photographer, presenter and consultant for Hardy Greys and the Kingfisher Lakes and Apartments, also manages to pack in a good deal of personal guiding and rates this fish as one of his biggest successes.
John explained: ‘I’m really fortunate in having a string of Wensum gravel pit fisheries at my disposal. A lot of these waters are private, or at least semi-private and therefore don’t get a huge amount of angling pressure.’
