ROBERT BOWN got his just rewards for years of hard work on his local River Trent with this PB 18 lb 9 oz barbel.
The 36-year-old Nottingham angler tempted the mighty new personal best on a 3 Foot Twitch Redemption boilie.
Robert explained: “The weekend was a ‘full wolf moon’, and my mate Mark Brayne said to me it was big fish weather, too, but I wasn’t quite expecting this beauty.
“I was absolutely blown away, as I never thought I’d land a beast like this.
“It is still sinking in, to be honest. It was a really tough year in 2019 that broke me so many times.
“I know my mum was shining down from that bright sky when I caught it.
“It’s her birthday next week and the first without her being around, but I really hope she’s proud of me,” added Robert.
Robert’s pal and 3 Foot Twitch bait company boss Richard Easom said: “Nobody deserves this more.
“Fishing in gales, rain, sleet and snow, to climax with this 18 lb 9 oz barbel, it’s a fish of a lifetime.”
The British record barbel now stands at 21 lb 2 oz. That fish was caught from a Sussex river in November 2019 and quietly slipped into the official record lists before many people knew about it.
