OVER seven miles of prime canal have been rocked by a major pollution, resulting in huge numbers of fish deaths.
Club officials from incident in Leicestershire’s Wreake AC believe the hardest-hit two-mile section of the Grand Union Canal between Saddington Tunnel and Cranes Lock has suffered a complete fish kill.
Local anglers believe this could well equate to between a tonne and two tonnes of dead fish on what is considered one of the best canal venues in the country.
The incident has seen tens of thousands of prime fish being killed including roach, bream, rudd, perch, gudgeon, carp and pike.
