THE midlands match scene is mourning the death of Brownhills based Bill Ash.

RIP Bill Ash

Here, in this Angler’s Mail online tribute Tony Keeling, pays his respects on our behalf to Bill…

“Small in stature but massive in personality Bill always had a smile on his face.

His list of people who he counted as friends was enormous.

He was more than a good angler in his own right but will possibly remembered slightly more for his superb organising skills.

Bill set up lots of sponsorship deals for clubs, ran regular opens, team and huge winter league matches.

He also had a happy knack of ‘searching out’ different stretches of the Wyrley & Essington Canal to fish his matches.

In fact he was mainly responsible for opening up a whole new area for Midlands match anglers to compete.

Equally as important he was always the first to volunteer to help others in running matches.

Condolences from Angler’s Mail to all his family and friends at this sad time.”
