IT'S ONLY a matter of time before the world match record hits a staggering 1,000 lb in five hours, after match fishing hauler Gary Huth weighed in a colossal 977 lb!
Gary (pictured above) pledged to make a mega haul at Aaron’s Lake in Essex when Angler’s Mail magazine broke the news of Harry Hales’ 727 lb catch of carp earlier this summer.
Garbolino-sponsored Gary then blew his own six-hour match fishing record out of the water with his gobsmacking 977 lb catch on the pole.
“Split matches are not recognised officially as records, but I would imagine it’s probably the biggest weight of fish ever caught in a match, either here and abroad,” said Gary.
The Essex carp cruncher told Angler’s Mail magazine – which ran the exclusive and full story – that he needed 12 keepnets to hold the haul, which was around 220 fish, or one every 100 seconds.
He made the unexpected catch after accepting a last minute offer to fish in-form mega-weight commercial venue Aaron’s Lake, not far from his Pro-Master Angling shop in Barkingside.
Bait was Pro-Paste and he fed 4 kg of Pro Big G dark feed pellets coated with liquid Pro Stim Carp Porridge in Tiger Nut flavour and Big G Green Betaine Margin Method Mix.
Gary was using a Preston Innovations Jigger float under the new Garbolino G-System 8 m Margin Carp Power Pole and Bazookarp elastic through a puller kit, with 0.20mm Garbo Line and a size 10 Korum Xpert Power Hook.
