The Urban Bait Barrel Wafters come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Description: barrel-shaped carp baits in a wafter format.
Ingredients: 11 mm x 6 mm barrel-shaped hook baits in Nutcracker, Strawberry Nutcracker, Tuna & Garlic and Red Spicy Fish flavours. The Nutcracker baits include freshly ground tiger nuts, nut meals and milk proteins, with some bird food and Strawberry Ester flavour in the Strawberry version. Red Spicy Fish is a spicy fishmeal blend, whilst Tuna & Garlic is a fishmeal blend that includes a garlic enzyme and garlic essential oil.
My verdict: these ‘specials’ from bait maestros Urban Bait have been designed to put more big fish on the bank, including the wary ones.
Working on the basis that carp find it harder to eject barrel-shaped baits compared to traditional round boilies, Urban Bait have then added enough buoyancy to the hook baits so that with a bit of fine tuning you can use them to counteract the weight of your rig, for a true wafter.
The result is four pots of perfect hook baits that match the flavours and colours of their top bait ranges.
But subsurface they behave like free offerings, so Mr Carp slips up and doesn’t realise until it’s too late. I like the look of them.
