The Sufix XL Strong Mono comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

THERE are certain situations for which you need a strong, dependable line, one that’ll take some stick, and Sufix XL Strong is one of those lines.

You might be gearing up for barbel, where you know there are a few snags about, or you could be fishing down the edge for carp, where you know they are going to try to take you into the reeds.

XL Strong starts at 0.14 mm (4 lb) and runs all the way through to 0.60 mm (60 lb), with the 0.23 mm, 0.25 mm, and 0.28 mm rated at 10 lb, 12 lb and 15 lb respectively. It’s available in Clear, Platinum, and Lemon colours. It’s smooth, which helps with casting, and it has low memory and low stretch, which helps set the hook.

Its super-copolymer nylon formula is what gives it its added toughness and abrasion resistance, helping to keep fish away from trouble. I’ve heard on the grapevine that ‘it’s as strong as old boots!’

As well as 100 m spools, there are 150 m, 300 m, 600 m and 1,000 m spool options, offering good value for spooling-up multiple reels.

Price: from £1.99 for 100 metres.
