Description: high-specification 8000-size big pit reel.

Specifications: supplied with two CNC machine-anodised aluminium spools taking 260 and 410 m of 0.35 mm line respectively; super-slow oscillation for perfect line lay; Quick-Torque drag system; twin spring-loaded line clips; Quick-Clik folding handle with wood grip; 14+1 stainless shielded bearings; 4.9:1 gear ratio; high-strength carbon composite body and rotor; dual-strength stainless steel main shaft; open bail rotor lock; weight 665 g.

My verdict: this brand new, slightly smaller spooled cousin to the big-hitting XD 10000 will still punch a baited rig at long range with ease, if you don’t need a 10000-size reel. All thanks to the super-slow oscillation, quality line lay and the taper of the spool.

Add the Quick-Torque drag, the 14+1 stainless steel bearings and twin spring-loaded line clips and you’ve got a very welcome package for carpers who wants a quality all-round carp reel that won’t break the bank.

Two spools are a nice touch, for main-line options. I also like the quick-folding handle with a wooden grip.

Price: £139.99.
