The Sonik SKX 3+1 Alarm, Receiver and Bivvy Lamp Set comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: a feature-packed alarm and receiver set with a free bivvy light.

Specifications: alarms: two multi-coloured LEDs; seven alarm and tone settings; six sensitivity settings; one-touch mute button; forward and drop-back bite indication; Nite-Lite function; rod-friendly rubber inlays; screw-in snag ears; protective covers supplied; low-battery warning; 150 m range; takes 2AAA batteries. Receiver: four colour channels; LEDs that indicate drop-back bites; Light and Sound, Light and Vibration, or Light, Sound and Vibration indication options; matches the alarm tone automatically; low-battery warning; anti-theft alarm; built-in torch; 150 m range; lanyard attachment point; table-top cradle holster supplied; requires 2AAA batteries. Bivvy light: manual on/off mode or automatic illumination mode; six colour channels; six levels of brightness; delay adjustment; low-battery warning; magnetic and bivvy hook attachment supplied; requires 3AA batteries.

My verdict: this upgraded partner to the popular SKS Alarm, Receiver and Bivvy Lamp set is bound to attract interest.

The fact that you can scroll through a choice of LED colours on the alarms at the press of a button will be well received.

I also like the one-touch mute button, as it enables you to silence your alarms when you make adjustments to your bobbins, but it will reactivate after 30 seconds, so you don’t accidentally leave your system on silent by mistake.

The range of adjustability is useful, as are the smart, removable snag ears on the alarm heads.

Even the bivvy light offers six brightness settings and a time delay function.

Price: £229.99.
