The Sonik SK-TEK Compacta Cradle comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.
Description: a compact unhooking mat with sides, perfect for specimen carp.
Specifications: 50 mm foam-padded base; easy fold-out design Velcro safety flap with water port; zipped exit ends and pegging points; mesh base for quick water drainage; kneeling pad; large accessory pocket; HD PVC fish-friendly lining; measures 120 x 65 x 27 cm when assembled.
My verdict: arriving in tackle shops any time soon, this cradle packs down to 60 x 65 x 12 cm, making it easy to carry with the rest of your gear.
Well padded, it’ll handle specimen carp with ease, the springy sides being a decent height to contain your prize for unhooking.
It allows you to get your hands underneath a fish, so that you can lift it for a catch photograph or two, before returning it to the cradle.
The kneeling pad, pegging points and zip exits are useful features, too.
A compact and more versatile alternative to a framed cradle.
