The Carp Spirit Medium Curve Shank Razor Point Hooks come under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: specimen carp hook with an aggressively curved shank.

Specifications: available in sizes 1-10; medium curve shank; slightly down-turned eye; super-sharp Dura-Point; Japanese carbon steel; non-glare PTFE finish; closed eye; micro barb.

My verdict: I am always impressed with the sharpness of Razor Point hooks, as they do seem to prick incredibly easily, which is exactly what you want from a hook.

The Medium Curve Shank pattern looks like an ideal hook for rigs such as 360s, Ronnies and KDs, the aggressive curve helping it to hook a fish in the bottom lip.

The slightly down-turned eye complements the curve, ensuring that the hook point takes hold at the earliest opportunity.

The hook points on this range are quite long, something that I prefer when looking for a good hook-hold.

Constructed from Japanese carbon steel, they are strong, but not overly heavy, the non-glare PTFE finish offering protection and minimising flash.

They’re sold in clip-shut boxes, which ensure that they stay in tip-top condition until you need them.

These hooks are not available in a barbless version, which might be an issue on some waters.

Price: £4.49 for ten.
