The Carp Spirit INOX Rod Pod comes under the beady eye of Angler's Mail tackle editor Richard Howard. He's the No.1 products inspector, checking out loads of quality kit every week.

Description: top-end pod.

Specifications: ultra-high grade, 300-series stainless steel construction; quick set-up and pack down spring-lock bar system; legs can be locked at 45 degrees, and then with the pod lower to the ground with the legs at 22.5 degrees; quick-release drop-in adaptors for upright sections, which are compatible with INOX buzz bars; available as a base only, for those that already have INOX Buzz Bars, or as a 3 or 4 rod pod with fixed buzz bars, which each include five upright quick-release QR pill adaptors, providing a speedy set-up and breakdown; no loss Tri-lobe thumb screws; long banksticks can be fitted on the front for fishing the rod tips high; Carrybag included.

My verdict: if you’re looking for a rod pod ‘for life’, I reckon this is a serious contender, and it certainly deserves closer inspection, if you don’t mind digging deep, given its price tag. Designed to last, it’s made from ultra-high-grade stainless.

What impressed me most though was once your buzzers and back rests are stored on your buzzer bars, you can convert the rod pod from being stored in flat mode to ‘fishing’ mode in less that 50 seconds.

The spring-lock bar system is very clever, and means that you can be up and fishing in no time – exactly what you want.

Quick-release drop-in adaptors for the four upright supports help a speedier set-up time, as do the QR quick-release pills or adaptors, which also help achieve perfect alignment of your alarms. Nobody has time to waste fiddling with a Meccano-type system.

It’s worth investing in the CS 2-in-1 key tool for £3.25 to help with ‘tightening or releasing’ on cold or wet days.

This is a high-spec, functional rod pod that stores nice and flat, but sets up quickly.

Prices: Complete Rod Pod £349.99; Base £299.99.
