DESCRIPTION. This popular, free fishing stretch of the lower part of the River Frome is in Wareham town centre. Free fishing is available from the town bridge downstream to the Marina, with the majority of the fishing on the south bank. Free fishing is also from the car park area on the north bank, by the bridge. The length is well known for roach, with fish to 3 lb 8 oz. Also available are winter pike topping 20 lb, carp to 35 lb, perch over 4 lb, grayling to record breaking proportions of over 4 lb, dace to 1 lb and salmon, sea trout, brown trout, mullet, flounder, bass and others.
TACTICS. The two main baits for these big roach and dace are maggot or bread flake fished in the flow, using either a stick float or a feeder, depending on the conditions. Perch show in the steady swims to lobworm over chopped worm. All the now conventional tactics score for carp. Winter pike to a float fished or legered sea deadbaits.
