School pupils help clean up the Lea near the Olympic stadium during the launch event for a new project.

WATERWAYS are getting a major clean up in readiness for the Olympic Games 2012, Angler’s Mail can reveal.

The Big Waterways Clean Up will see a minimum of 4,000 Londoners are to volunteer for some 80 events, transforming over 50 waterways along 30km of rivers and canals.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: ‘Cleaning up London in this historic year, is a key priority for me but also for thousands of volunteers who put in their time and effort to keep the city in tip top condition.’
