There will now be all sort of demonstrations for pleasure, match and - especially - carp addicts too!

THIS week’s Angler’s Mail reports on a new show, “replacing” the old Go Fishing event that was for many years at Birmingham’s NEC, before switching to Cudmore in north Staffordshire.

The new public show format will be at Cudmore, organised the venue, and will be near the two prestigious matches it is hosting – big money Fish “O” Mania final on the July 16, and the Home Internationals event on the July 17.

Cudmore Fishery’s Cyril Crewster has had vast experience of running all manner of shows and events over the last 30 years. Cyril has now added a new dimension to the show attached to Fish’O'Mania… with massive areas earmarked for carp exhibitor/retailers to be present, providing a full representation of the fastest growing area in fishing.

The entrance fees are as follows; adults £6 and children £4.

Cyril said: ‘Cudmore offers everything a show site could ever wish for. We have a fantastic match scene, specimen carp to 30 lb and unbelievable predator fishing with 60 lb-plus catfish for any aspiring predator angler to aim at. Not to mention the pike which have been stock to 20lb – creating a truly diverse fishery.

‘The site has undergone extensive redevelopment in the past few years to gear the site up specifically for shows with hard roads and paths being laid. This will ensure spectators will not be trudging through the mud, heaven forbid we have the bad weather again this year.

‘Not only has Cudmore under taken a change in appearance we have also taken a change in direction for the fishery with the new National School Of Angling being set up on site to provide a way into our fantastic sport. You could say at Cudmore we are trying to secure the future of this fantastic sport but couldn’t achieve a thing without the help from the trade, media and Get Hooked on Fishing.’

The list of star firms and activities is being added to - and it looks busy!

For all the predator anglers out there this will be the place to be with catfish angling demonstrations and there will be pike/perch demonstrations in this area.

Cyril added: ‘All in all this is just a snap shot of the new show but what we are aiming at with this show is to provide value for money, a fantastic experience on the day with lots of attractions to view and lots of choice to tackle to buy.

‘We want to create a fantastic environment for all who frequent this show whether it is the exhibitors or spectators we want to raise the profile of angling and quality of the shows for our sport on a whole.’

A LATE RUN of fish enabled Neil McKinnon to win the 17th Fish’O'Mania Final.

Televised live on Sky Sports 2, Gloucester-based engineer Neil scooped the £25,000 jackpot ahead of 4-1 starting favourite Tom Pickering at Cudmore in north Staffordshire.

In a great TV boost for the sport, Shakespeare Superteam angler Neil, who is backed by Dynamite Baits, told Sky Sports News viewers in their result bulletins how he “persevered and persevered” in search of carp on pellet over chopped worm and caster.

He finally added five or six fish in the final 30 minutes…and that made the difference.

FORMER Angler’s Mail-Kamasan Matchman of the Year Neil Machin went into this weekend’s mega money Fish’O'Mania match as the slight favourite… until the vital draw was made for pegs!

Totesport.com have had the Stoke star, who won the £25,000 Mania title in 2006, as the man to beat at Staffordshire’s Cudmore fishery on Saturday. Sunday will see a Champions of Champions Mania showdown.

Bag ‘Em Baits and Garbolino maestro Neil led the way for this, the 17th Mania final, at 5/1, and will hope to do it again in front of Sky Sports cameras at a venue he knows very well.

Another former Angler’s Mail Matchman of the Year, Daiwa hauler Kieron Rich of Dudley, was second favourite at 6/1. Also a Bag ‘Em Baits man, he’s been a Mania finalist in 2005 and 2006.

The oldest man in the field, 1989 World Champion, Yorkshire legend and popular Preston Innovations consultant Tom Pickering, was third favourite at 13/2. The same odds were listed by totesport.com for Middy and Dynamite Baits’ bagger Rob Wootton, from Leicestershire, who was runner-up last year.

Totesport’s Paul Dunning said: ‘The peg draw is likely to determine how competitive the contest will be but if I had to make a choice now, then I’ve got a feeling that it could be Rob Wootton’s time after finishing runner-up last year.”

Can Neil Machin win the £25K match again?

Ray Hayward’s odds dropped from 20/1 to 4/1 after pulling out peg 16 at Cudmore, where Matt Hall won last year…and other bookies’ prices changed too.

Estate agent manager Ray, 49, from Somerton, Somerset, qualified from his local Viaduct Fishery way back in April with 136 lb and knows how to haul. But so do the whole field!!
